They Often See Dreams About The Spring - Drudkh

Drudkh satisfies

Drudkh demonstrate what they are best at, and they succeed for the most part to keep the listener interested. Each of the moments is completely up to call, while the other individual moments lacks a little innovation. There is no number on this album that falls through, but only number one and four comes up to bite spoons with Drudkhs classic works. Are you Drudkh-fan you will be happy for Spring. Otherwise I recommend you to start with their legendary debut, Forgotten Legends.

Mysterious legends

Ukrainian Drudkh are among the most genuine black metal groups in history, judging by their vehement rejection of commercialization. Drudkh does not play concerts, gives no interviews and does not take pictures. Just to find out what the name "Drudkh" means is a mission. Allmusic.com claims, "Drudkh" is sanskrit for "wood" or "forest" (eng. "wood"), but where the group has it from is a mystery. Regardless of the etymology is Drudkhs eleventh studio album, They Often See Dreams of The Spring, a reality, and the title could not fit better.

Elongated... and elongated

Drudkhs slavic hedningemetal have always built on the long songs, the mournful chords and melodies as well as the usual black metal characteristics. On the Spring changes the absolutely nothing; "Nakryta Neba Burym Dakhom" opens the album with a catchy, melancholic melody played by two bright guitarstemmer. Soon the beautiful companionship of rytmegruppen, consisting of a deeper guitarstemme, drums and even a bass. When the vocals come into the picture have the perfect example of the duality that prevails in the black metal: It is thought to be shocking and repulsive, but ends up to be alluring and aesthetic.

Åbningsnummeret witnesses on one of the album's greatest strengths: Progressionerne is well-designed and well-functioning, both from chord to chord and from piece to piece. Also from song to song is the progression is satisfactory; number four, "Za Zoreyu Scho Striloyu Syaye", possesses an almost in awe at the atmosphere, which is excellently placed and executed. There are not two songs, pieces, or chord progressions, which sound alike, which is imperative, for with only five songs, spread over three quarter it's not an to the memories of each other.

But the individual balances of the songs, often on the edge of the long, drawn-out, and takes, unfortunately, multiple times over. "Nakryta" contains a fireminutters shim, which alternates between just two different rytmefigurer without vowels. Here doing Drudkh frisag – at least in the attentive listening – thanks to the drummer, Him innovations, but not all of the songs release so elegantly from it. As Spring progresses, I have longed, therefore, increasingly following the variation. Everything is played in 4/4 time and each chord is held usually in the two bars. This helps to make the music more elongated, but without enough variation, it becomes elongated and elongated.

I will not dwell longer upon production than necessary. And, in particular, in åbningsnummeret, one light guitarstemme particularly evident in the mix, while the other can barely be glimpsed. I know, of course, not what the listener miss, but I doubt it makes the music a service.
